Delta State to Build Asaba International Market in 2025
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has announced that 2025 will see the delivery of major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Asaba International Market.
The project is part of efforts to improve the appearance of the state capital and stimulate economic growth.
Speaking during a site visit to the proposed market location, Governor Oborevwori explained that he had personally visited several ongoing projects to assess their progress.
“We won’t just sit in the office and approve projects; we need to visit these sites to see how they are progressing,” he said.
The governor revealed that the ground breaking ceremony for the market will take place by the end of this month, although construction work has already started. He stressed that the market is part of broader plans to revitalize the city, with the aim of making it cleaner and more developed.
The site of the new market was previously home to the Abraka Market, which had become a hotspot for criminal activity before being relocated to Oko. The new facility will provide a modern, secure space for traders and contribute to the region’s economic development.
Governor Oborevwori also disclosed the state’s partnership with Efab Properties Limited, which will oversee the construction and allocation of market spaces. The state government is providing the land and will receive 20% of the revenue generated by the market.
The governor discussed the need for improvements to road infrastructure in Asaba, promising ongoing work to maintain and build new roads to give the city a modern look.
