EFCC Officer Shot Dead in Anambra as Yahoo Boys Open Fire
An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been killed and another critically injured in an ambush by suspected internet fraudsters, also known as “Yahoo Boys,” in Anambra State.
The two operatives were on a raid to apprehend a group of cybercriminals when they encountered gunfire. One officer, an Assistant Superintendent who had recently passed a promotional examination, died at the scene, while his colleague remains in critical condition in hospital.
The incident has raised concerns within the EFCC, with sources within the agency revealing that the officers currently lack adequate life insurance coverage.
“We no longer have life insurance,” said an anonymous EFCC official. “The last time families of fallen officers received compensation was during Farida Waziri’s tenure.”
The operatives had traveled from the EFCC’s Enugu office to target a notorious ring of cybercriminals. Authorities confirmed the arrest of a male suspect in connection with the shooting, but his identity remains undisclosed.
